Chainsaw Safety and Tree Felling

Our instructor has had over 20 years of experience with chainsaws and received both hard lessons and training from many professional courses, including multiple chainsaw manufacturers, a local tree care company, an international tree care company, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and is a qualified sawyer for wildland firefighting. He has honed this course over nearly 20 years of teaching these skills to give students the processes they need to safely handle nearly any situation related to chainsaws and tree felling.
This class is in-person with approximately 5-6 hours in a classroom on Day 1 and 5-8 hours in the field with demonstrations and hands-on learning and assessments on Day 2.

Materials Handling Equipment Safety

Materials handling equipment such as skidsteers, mini excavators, and track loaders can be deceptively complicated and risky to use, but they are extremely versatile and productive in the hands of a trained operator. There are nearly limitless attachments and uses for these machines. This in-person course gives students the processes to handle most situations that might arise, teaches them what hazards to watch for, and is tailored to the attachment(s) to be used.

This is a two-day training with 4-6 hours in the classroom on Day 1, including lectures, case studies, and discussions and 5-8 hours in the field on Day 2 for demonstrations, hands-on learning, and skills assessments.

Tree and Plant Identification/Basic Ecology

This course offers basic plant identification skills to allow individuals to understand and better connect with what is around them. Students will learn basic plant physiology, how plant communities form and change over time, and how the plants present in an area can inform you about the geology, management history, and wildlife to watch for at the site.

Species identified and discussions are seasonal. Students may learn foraging tips and potentially some historical medicinal uses, as well.
